MARK RIDDLE | director
Mark Riddle is a very versatile filmmaker and videographer from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mark first began his career in 2016, when he directed a PSA commercial for the MS Society of Canada. He graduated from SAIT’s Television and Video Production program in 2017, during which he co-wrote/directed a 30 minute post-apocalyptic drama with Ximena titled ‘SURREAL’. Their final school film would go on to win awards for Best Film & Screenplay at national and international film festivals. Their short has currently garnered over 200k views on L120’s YouTube channel. In the years since then, he has directed numerous short films, documentary’s, music videos, and commercials. Mark has a strong eye for dynamic, creative, and artistic digital story-telling. For client based projects, he is heavily involved in every aspect of production, with the end goal to ensure that the clients vision is met to its fullest potential.
His work has screened at festivals in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Toronto. Mark’s web-series ‘Complacency’ (which he co-created with Ximena) has won the award for ‘Best Series’ at multiple festivals and award shows, most notably at the New York Film Awards in 2019. He then directed the music video ‘Baldur’ for Osi and the Jupiter, which won best ‘Drama Short’ at the 2020 New York Film Awards, and received an Award of Merit at the 2020 Canada Shorts Film Awards. Mary Armstrong received a nomination for her performance in Baldur, both at the New York Film Awards and the Stinger Awards in Calgary.
Currently, Mark is in production of the Cultural Chef Exchange series, produced by Food Tourism Strategies and Chef Darren Maclean. He is co-producing an anthology web-series titled ‘MINDOMINIUM’ with Ximena, in collaboration with the Quarantine International Film Festival. He is also in the early stages of production to direct a proof of concept short for a much larger scale dramatic horror series.
