MARK RIDDLE

Mark Riddle is a very versatile filmmaker and videographer from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mark first began his career in 2016, when he directed a PSA commercial for the MS Society of Canada. He graduated from SAIT’s Television and Video Production program in 2017, during which he co-wrote/directed a 30-minute post-apocalyptic drama with Ximena titled ‘SURREAL’. Their final school film would go on to win awards for Best Film & Screenplay at national and international film festivals. Their short has currently garnered over 200k views on L120’s YouTube channel. In the years since then, he has directed numerous short films, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. Mark’s strong eye for dynamic, creative, and artistic digital storytelling has allowed him to continuously produce high quality content for his clients. He is heavily involved in every aspect of production, with the end goal to ensure that the client’s vision is met to its fullest potential.

His work has screened at festivals in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Toronto. Mark’s web-series ‘Complacency’ (which he co-created with Ximena) has won the award for ‘Best Series’ at multiple festivals and award shows, most notably at the New York Film Awards in 2019. He then directed the music video ‘Baldur’ for Osi and the Jupiter, which won best ‘Drama Short’ at the 2020 New York Film Awards and received an Award of Merit at the 2020 Canada Shorts Film Awards. Actress Mary Armstrong received a nomination for her performance in Baldur, both at the New York Film Awards and the Stinger Awards in Calgary.

Throughout 2020 to 2022, Mark would primarily shoot and direct dozens of music videos and corporate commercials. During this time, he also worked on TV commercials, short films, and feature films as a grip and/or gaffer. In 2022, Mark directed the music video ‘Alchemy’ for Caveat, which won ‘Best Music Video’ at several international festivals. The following year, he worked as a cinematographer and editor for the short film ‘To The End’, written and directed by Ty Javos & Victoria Pilot. Mark and Ty would collaborate again on the experimental thriller short ‘Oh House, Oh House’, which Mark worked on as a cinematographer, editor, and co-director. Following this project, Mark worked as the editor for the short film ‘VIOLENT SKIN’ & the feature film “I’M SEEING THINGS”, once again collaborating with Ty Javos.

In 2024 at the Central Alberta Film Festival, Mark won the award for “Best Music Video” for Miralee’s ‘Stranger To Myself’ video, and the “Audience Choice Award: Best Music Video” for Miralee’s video ‘Fly’. The three music videos nominated at CAFF 2024 were all directed by Mark Riddle.

He is also in the early stages of pre-production for several other short films;

‘NIGHT WITHOUT END’ is a suspense thriller following three criminals after a botched robbery.

‘INSOMNIAC’ is a horror thriller following a documentary filmmaker while he is producing a film about sleep paralysis.
